Services for Spouses, Partners, and Families
We recognize that loving someone who has engaged in problematic sexual behavior can create a unique and deeply challenging experience for spouses, partners, and family members. Loved ones may find themselves navigating betrayal, confusion, grief, anger, fear, isolation, and difficult questions about their relationship and future.
At Outlook Counseling Center, we understand that these challenges are different from those faced in traditional relationship, family, or individual counseling. Our therapists have specialized insight into the complex emotional and relational impact of problematic sexual behavior on loved ones. We provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where partners and family members can process their experiences, gain clarity, establish healthy boundaries, and determine what healing and moving forward look like for them.
Our family services are centered on the needs, well-being, and empowerment of the loved one—separate and parallel to the treatment of the individual who engaged in the behavior. We believe loved ones deserve their own space to be heard, supported, and cared for throughout their journey.
Partner and family services are not an extension of offender treatment and are provided independently, with the partner or family member’s well-being at the center of care.
Individual Therapy for Spouses & Family Members
Individual therapy provides a confidential, supportive space specifically for spouses, partners, and family members to focus on their own needs and healing. Services may help loved ones:
Process the emotional impact of problematic sexual behavior
Rebuild a sense of safety, stability, and trust in themselves
Understand and establish healthy boundaries
Clarify personal values, needs, and priorities
Navigate difficult decisions about the relationship
Develop healthy coping and self-care strategies
Receive support without pressure to reconcile, separate, forgive, or make any particular decision
Couples Counseling
When clinically appropriate, couples counseling can provide a structured environment for partners to address the impact of problematic sexual behavior and determine how to move forward. Areas of focus may include:
Rebuilding trust through honesty and transparency
Establishing healthy boundaries and expectations
Strengthening communication and emotional connection
Developing healthy emotional regulation and conflict-resolution skills
Supporting accountability and responsible relationship behaviors
Helping both partners make informed decisions about the future of the relationship
Couples counseling is considered when sufficient safety, stability, and accountability are present to support productive therapeutic work.
Group Support for Spouses & Partners
Outlook offers a support group specifically for spouses and partners of individuals experiencing problematic sexual behavior. This provides an opportunity to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of this experience in a safe, confidential, and supportive environment.
Group support may include:
Education and increased understanding
Validation and normalization of experiences
Support from others with similar experiences
Healthy boundary-setting and self-care skills
Tools for coping, communication, and moving forward
This group is not about managing or monitoring the other person’s behavior. It is about supporting the spouse or partner’s healing, well-being, voice, and autonomy.
Our Approach to Family & Relationship Therapy
Outlook takes an individualized, trauma-informed approach to family and relationship work. Depending on the needs and goals of those involved, therapy may incorporate:
Trauma-informed care
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Attachment-based approaches
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Family systems perspectives
Psychoeducation and practical skill development
Every person and family experiences the impact of problematic sexual behavior differently. Treatment is tailored to where each client is in their journey, with a focus on safety, healing, healthy connection, and meaningful choices about the future.
